General Maintenance

It's worth mentioning that sex toys should be cleaned between each uses and especially if you take the toy from vaginal play to anal play. You don't want to go there. Also if you share toys with a partner this rule especially applies and using condoms is a good idea. If any toy shows signs of weakness, be it a crack, fracture or just a sharp surface, dump it. Your safety is not worth the risk.

Battery Operated Toys
Many vibrators run on batteries and these need a little love and attention of their own to ensure that you get the best from them.

Avoid using battery operated toys for more than 30 minutes continuously.

It's always a good idea to remove the batteries as they may leak and damage your toy if you don't. This is especially true if you don't intend to use them for a long time. Once finished with your toy, remember to remove batteries

Use ONLY water based lubricant. NEVER use oil or petroleum based lubricant.

Avoid water contact for all battery operated toys as this will sure to cause damage. The battery compartments of the toys are often not water proof. If water gets inside the toy and around the motor mechanism it will cause the toy to corrode and become damaged.

Clean your toy after use with a damp cloth and run it under cold or luke warm soapy water. DO NOT immerse in water. Try to apply an anti-bacterial solution, but not bleach, to be used together while washing.

Ensure that before you assemble your toy there is no water in or around the battery area. Dry the toy thoroughly before storing it. (You do not want your wooden furniture to rot too right?). It's also a good idea to use a hairdryer after washing to ensure the battery compartments and other parts are dried.

Avoid exposing your toys to direct sunlight as it will deteriorate them over time. Sunlight will break down most silicon, rubbers and latex compounds.
Batteries

There is nothing worse than running out of buzz when you are about to climax. Change batteries when it is time, and don’t let dead ones sit in the compartment.

DO not use alkaline or heavy duty batteries. They will shorten the life span of the battery operated product damaging the circuits, switches or wirings.
Waterproof Battery Operated Toys
Batteries are not water proof. The battery compartments of toys labelled 'waterproof' are often not waterproof, as claimed. Although we try to avoid this, the rule of thumb is make sure your toy is properly sealed. If the seal is no good, make no mistake, the water will destroy it. After immersion dry it off thoroughly before carrying out any cleaning and apply general maintenance as explained above.
Other Toys
Clean Duo Balls, Dongs, Strapon's, cyberskin products, etc with luke warm water and mild soap. Dry and store away from heat and sunlight. Ensure any strings, straps etc are also adequately cleaned.
Leather harnesses can be cleaned with a damp cloth, nylon harnesses can go in the washing machine with your laundry.
Rubber and jelly are porous, therefore, it is impossible to keep them properly sterilized. The risk is obvious if you are sharing your toys or using them for both the vagina and anus.
Silicone cocks will not only last much longer than rubber or jelly, but they can actually be boiled for sterilization, which you can not do with rubber or jelly dongs.
Depending on the exact composite of the material used in manufacture you may find sometimes that your toy attracts dust. This means you will want to clean before use as well as after, allow time to examine your toy before as well as after it is used.
Look to make your sexual practices as hygienic as possible and use common sense.
